A second team from the King’s Trust programme at Weston College has spent three days at the Hughenden Centre, from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 November, building on the partnership that began with their earlier work in the Foodbank storeroom.
During their visit, the group split into two teams to take on different projects around the building. One team set to work on a very practical task for our developing prayer space, carefully breaking up forty wooden pallets. The timber from these pallets will be used to create a prayer wall in the Centre, giving visitors a creative place to pin up written prayers and reflections.
The second team turned their attention to the outside of the building, painting two of our external walls white. Their work has already made a visible difference, brightening the exterior and helping the Hughenden Centre feel more welcoming to those who pass by or come in for support.
In a wonderful act of generosity, the learners also organised a bake sale to raise funds for the project. The money they raised paid for the paint and all the materials they needed, showing real ownership and commitment to improving the Centre for the community.
The team was led by Talia Waters, and we are very grateful for her leadership and for the attitude and effort shown by every learner who took part. This visit follows on from the first King’s Trust group who refreshed our Foodbank storeroom and donated 35 kg of food, and it is encouraging to see this partnership growing over time.
Everyone at Weston Ark gives special thanks to the King’s Trust, Weston College and the learners involved for their hard work, creativity and willingness to serve. Their contribution is helping to shape the Hughenden Centre as a place of welcome, prayer and practical support for our town.
