As we look back over January, we want to thank God for the practical and encouraging ways He has been at work at the Hughenden Centre. This month has included visible progress, steady teamwork, and signs of growing momentum as the Ark Café continues to take shape as a place of welcome, dignity, and hope for our community.
Praise: reasons to give thanks
1. Ark Café: encouraging momentum and a warm atmosphere
We give thanks for the Ark Café operating through January and for the encouraging atmosphere captured in recent photos from our café sessions. It is a real joy to see people being served with kindness and to sense a steady rhythm beginning to form.
Please give thanks for every volunteer who has stepped forward, and for the behind the scenes coordination that makes weekly opening possible.
We also give thanks for our Welcome and Worship gathering earlier in the month as we prepared for opening. A fuller reflection is available in our separate January gathering post.
2. A Giving Tree: quiet generosity and dignity
We give thanks for the creative touches that are helping to shape the atmosphere of the Ark Café and the wider Centre. Diana has kindly donated a Giving Tree, offering a simple way for those who are able to bless someone else quietly and with dignity.

We are also grateful for the mural work now progressing on the wall, as a prayer corner begins to take shape. It is encouraging to see these details coming together, helping the space feel welcoming, thoughtful, and peaceful.

3. Ark Café now easier to find: feather flags delivered and ready to deploy
We give thanks for a very practical improvement this month. Our new wayfinding feather flags have now been delivered and are ready to be placed at the entrance, helping people find the Hughenden Centre and clearly signalling that the Ark Café is open.
For anyone arriving for the first time, clear visibility matters. These flags are a simple but important way of welcoming people in, reducing uncertainty, and making it easier for the community to locate the café.
We would like to make special mention of Weston Town Council and give heartfelt thanks for their financial support of £500 towards this project. This is a tangible sign of encouragement and partnership, and it directly helps the Ark Café become more visible and accessible to the wider community.

4. Progress on the toilets refurbishment
We also give thanks for progress on the toilets refurbishment, with visible work now underway. These improvements matter. They help create a more welcoming space for everyone who comes through the doors, and they support dignity for all ages and needs.
We are grateful for the steps being taken and for the steady movement on a project that will benefit the Centre long term. We also wish to thank Benefact Trust again for their support towards this work.

5. Training and equipping volunteers
January has also included encouraging steps toward equipping our volunteers. We give thanks for training opportunities that help people feel confident, supported, and prepared, especially as we aim to welcome people well and respond wisely when someone shares a difficult situation.
We are grateful that Citizens Advice North Somerset have arranged an “Advice First Aid” session for our team at the Hughenden Centre. This is a practical step that will help volunteers listen well, understand boundaries, and signpost people to the right support.
Prayer points: looking ahead in faith
1. Ark Café: consistency, the right volunteers, and a welcoming culture
Please pray for the Ark Café as it continues to establish a steady rhythm. Pray for the right volunteers in the right roles, good teamwork, and a calm atmosphere where people feel safe, valued, and listened to.
2. Dignity and generosity
Please pray that the Giving Tree becomes a quiet blessing, and that everyone who comes to the Centre experiences dignity, welcome, and kindness.
3. Training and confidence
Please pray that training continues to equip volunteers with confidence and wisdom, and that the Citizens Advice session is practical, encouraging, and well attended.
4. Toilets refurbishment: smooth progress and good communication
Please pray for safe and smooth progress on the refurbishment, good communication with contractors, and minimal disruption to building use.
5. Visibility and outreach
Please pray that the flags help the right people find the Hughenden Centre, especially those who may feel isolated or unsure where to turn.
6. God at the centre
Above all, please pray that God remains at the centre of everything we do. Pray for wisdom for trustees, strength for volunteers, and a clear sense of God’s guidance as Weston Ark continues to grow.

It is wonderful to see the way that God is bringing people together in his service. Like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle we all have our place in God's vision for WsM.
