Statement of Purpose

Introduction
Weston Ark is a Christan Charity established to purchase the Hughenden Centre (formerly Vintage Church Hall) in Hughenden Road, Weston-super-Mare as a base from which to meet the dual purposes of:
   1. Providing advice, support and training opportunities for families and individuals
       existing within low household incomes.
   2. Enabling ongoing Christian witness from the former church building.

What Are We Here For?
Our desire is to work with partner organisations to reduce benefit dependency and the need for crisis interventions in people’s lives. Weston-super-Mare Foodbank is a significant partner agency, and we seek to offer solutions that will reduce the need for emergency food, or to provide support and training that enables people to avoid falling back into dependence on emergency interventions.

We recognise the impact of low household income on families and children and will seek opportunities to develop family support networks at and from the Centre.

How we work
Weston Ark plans to establish a Community Café at the Hughenden Centre. This is to provide a warm and safe space for people to meet. It is also intended to provide an environment in which people can discuss issues and receive advice and guidance. This may be by signposting towards appropriate support agencies or linking with training opportunities locally.

Our Background
Weston Ark has been established by a group of long-term supporters and volunteers from Weston-super-Mare Foodbank. The trustees have extensive private sector and Not for Profit business experience, including working with disadvantaged groups and low-income households at national and local level.

The trustees have been motivated to establish Weston Ark as an outworking of our Christian faith. However, the services available are for all in need, and we welcome partnering with people of all faiths and none who seek to challenge the impact of poverty in the local community.
March 2025.
