Churches Communication April 2025
Weston Ark is a Christian Charity established in 2024 to strengthen community selfhelp within Weston-super-Mare. We see the name “Weston Ark” as relating to the “Ark of the Covenant” of Old Testament times. The Ark was representative of the presence of God travelling with his people. This was later located in the Temple in Jerusalem, then personified in Jesus and now evident in the work of the Holy Spirit available to those who acknowledge Jesus as Lord.
Our desire is to see that outworking of the presence of God expressed in terms of love and support for the community – particularly for those seeking to manage on low incomes or who may have needed emergency interventions such as support from Foodbanks.
Weston Ark is purchasing the Hughenden Centre (formerly Vintage Church Hall/Purple Sheep Centre) to provide a base for our action. Our vision is to see this work centred around a new café facility – a safe, warm space where all are welcome. We see the potential to establish low-cost food solutions, cookery courses, training opportunities, after school events, information/advice services, “Messy Church” events plus other support and activities relevant to the local community.
The challenges for 2025 are to complete the purchase of the building (April), carry out some essential repairs/refurbishments, build relationships with existing users of the facility and to establish a café facility as the core for future activities. We look forward to partnering with other organisations to widen the range of support available.
