Asda Foundation grant to help launch the Ark Café Warm Space

The Team at Weston Ark are delighted to share that we have received a £600 “Better Together” grant from the Asda Foundation following a nomination from our partners at Weston Foodbank.

This funding will help us take the next practical steps toward launching the Ark Café at the Hughenden Centre. The café is being developed as a free Warm Space where people can find hot drinks, a friendly welcome and somewhere safe to linger without needing to spend money.

Our vision is that the Ark Café will initially open alongside Weston Foodbank’s Thursday outlet at the Hughenden Centre. While Foodbank continue their vital work with their own volunteers and systems, the café will sit alongside as a quiet space to pause, chat and build relationships. Over time, as capacity allows, we hope to add further sessions and simple activities that encourage connection and belonging.

The £600 Asda Foundation grant will go towards:

  • Small café equipment and supplies for serving hot drinks

  • Creating a warm, welcoming environment that feels safe and homely

  • Initial costs that help us open reliably through the colder months

All of this supports Weston Ark’s wider mission to bring practical hope to those on low incomes in Weston super Mare, and to create places where people are known by name, listened to and gently signposted to further help where needed.

We are very grateful to God for this provision, to Weston Foodbank for kindly nominating the charity, and to Asda Foundation and the Weston super Mare Asda store for their generous support. Together, these partnerships are helping to turn the vision of the Ark Café into a reality at the heart of the Hughenden Centre.
